On so-called 'lateral[s]': Some observations from palatography and spectrography

Abstract

This paper supplements certain well-known articulatory aspects of sigmatisms (lisps) with observations derived from spectrography. The five cases studied show widely differing articulations with a relatively invariant acoustic output. A phonological perspective of the problem is argued to be of relevance to therapy.
